Playdough with Older Toddlers

The Older Toddlers have been exploring playdough through multiple lenses. Sometimes the children choose to explore as a full sensory material: adding flour, examining consistency, scraping fingers along the tops of piles. Playdough is used as a precursor for clay skills, such as learning to roll out ‘snakes’ or ‘worms’ that stretch across the table. Other times the playdough serves as dramatic play. Children create pretend food out of the dough and serve one another small treats such as cookies, pancakes, and quesadillas. Creating birthday cakes is another common occurrence, with the toddlers banding together to sing a rendition of “Happy Birthday.”
